Tuesday 30th June: Chapter 18

Hello Squirrels and happy Tuesday!

I hope your brains have stopped aching after all that tricky code cracking yesterday. As Archie said "we are kind pirates so of course we will help the other ship" , so I hope you were able to write your code back. We are indeed very compassionate, wise pirates who are full of endurance!

It's also time to get your maths brains going:

And get your bodies busy:

Have a great Tuesday Squirrels!

Monday 29th June: Chapter 17

Good Monday morning to you Squirrels! I hope you had a good weekend and did some fun things. The good news is it isn't supposed to be quite so hot this week, so we won't be melting in front of our Zoom screens!

First of all, visit the Whaddon Golden Awards blog to find out who this week's sparkling golden children are.

Last week, we left our story as departing from Australia. Want to find out where the pirates go next?

Important announcement: this week Year 1 and Year 2 have slightly different tasks in the story, so there are two different stories below. Please make sure you click on the correct one!

Additional things to keep your brain growing:

Finally, a well-being activity:

Have a great Monday Squirrels, whether you're in school, on Zoom or at home!

Thursday 25th June: Chapter 16

Hello and welcome Squirrels to another very hot and sunny day.

My favourite thing to do when the weather is THIS HOT is hang out in the garden with a good book. I suggest you do the same in between your learning times. Maybe you could make a little sunshade den using towels, chairs and tree branches? Don't forget your hat, sun cream and water at all times!

You might need those things for our story today, as we are off to another country with a very hot climate:

Hooray, it's another phonics / SPAG day:

To keep your body active, why not try this 7 minute pirate HIIT workout

Top tip: it is probably best to exercise early in the morning or late in the afternoon today, as it is supposed to reach 30 degrees! Make sure you are in a cool room or the shade and drink plenty of water. You need to keep yourselves cool Squirrels!

Speak soon, love Miss Cartwright

Wednesday 24th June: Chapter 15

It is another Wednesday today Squirrels and it is forecast to be very hot indeed. The sunshine makes me very happy and, after today's Zoom teaching, I shall be sunbathing like this Squirrel.

Today might be so hot and sunny that you will wish you could dive into the cool ocean, just like our pirates:

The great shape quiz continues today with 3D shapes:

Another superhero active challenge for you:

Enjoy the sunshine today Squirrels. Remember to wear a hat, drink lots of water and maybe have an ice cream or lolly if you can!

Tuesday 23rd June: Chapter 14

Hello Squirrels and a happy Tuesday to you.

I very much enjoyed yesterday's mantle chapter for two reasons.

(1) PENGUINS.
(2) Year 1 thought the penguin should stay on the ship whilst most of Year 2 thought he should be returned to his natural habitat.

Let's find out who managed to persuade Captain Greenbeard the best:

Today is a phonics and SPAG day. Enjoy!

To keep your body active, why not try this Popcorn and Pirates Adventure from Cosmic Yoga?

Have a great day today Squirrels,

Monday 22nd June

Good morning Squirrels and happy Monday!

First of all, visit the Golden Awards blog to see who this week's Golden Children are.

I hope you all had great weekends, filled with your favourite things to do. I baked Mars Bar brownies for my Dad yesterday and they were VERY tasty (and chewy and fudgey and yummy).

I can't believe it is already the third week of June. Time is whizzing by, just like in our mantle story. We are almost halfway through visiting all the continents of the world! Who knows where we will go or what will happen next... Find out here:

Today is a maths day, or to be more specific, a 2D shapes kind of day:

There is also a super fit Monday active challenge:

Have a great Monday Squirrels. I will see some of you soon on Zoom!

Friday 19th June

It's Miss Boardman and Mrs Wright here. We have decided to have a go at blogging and saying hello to you all! Some of you have been at school and some of you have been at 'zoom school with Miss Cartwright', however you have been learning this week I hope you have had fun!

Here are some ideas of things you could do over the next few days .

From all of your teachers, we hope you have a very happy Friday and weekend Squirrels!

Thursday 18th June: Chapter 12

Hello and happy Thursday Squirrels!

I've been having a great week zooming with some of you. Lots of children arrived to Tuesday's afternoon zoom wearing their carnival outfits and yesterday we had great fun thinking of way to describe stormy weather. Indy came up with two awesome similes for thunder and lightning:

"The lightning is as bright as a disco ball."

"The thunder is as loud as an elephant getting out of the bath."

Today the weather in our story is not stormy. You will, however, need your best waddle today:

Today is also a good day to practise your phonics and SPAG skills:

Have a great Thursday Squirrels and a big well done for almost completing your first week of zoom lessons and our story up to chapter 12. Tomorrow there will be a non-compulsory blog with lots of fun learning activities and ideas!

Wednesday 17th June: Chapter 11

A happy Wednesday to you Squirrels. It's the middle of the week already! Who else is enjoying the warm weather this week? I definitely am!

However, it is not very warm in our story today. Find out why below.

It is also time for some more maths skills:

A pirate maths joke for you:

What has 12 legs, 12 arms and 12 eyes? ... No, not a kraken! ... 6 pirates!

Tuesday 16th June: Chapter 10

Hello Squirrels,

It was great to see many of you on Zoom yesterday. It was also great to hear from Miss Nash that the Squirrels who are at school are having a great time. You should have had an email with your marble jar score yesterday, do let me know if you didn't!

I was impressed by the number of kind and compassionate pirates on board the Jolly Roger yesterday who fed and bandaged the injured Kraken. Now we are on to Chapter 10!

We practised maths facts yesterday, so today is a phonics and SPAG day:

Have a great Tuesday Squirrels near and far!

Monday 15th June: Chapter 9

Well hello there and good morning Squirrels.

To begin with, here are the first Golden Awards of lock-down! If you have received one, it will be emailed home to you for your to print off.

It is all change today! Some of you will be learning in school with Miss Nash, some of you will be learning at home with your adults and some of you will be learning with me on Zoom! I am very much looking forward to seeing your happy faces and mantling with you again, even if it is a little different to mantling at school. We will have a great time, of that I am sure!

Wherever you are learning, I hope you are enjoying the story. Here is chapter 9:

It is also a maths sort of Monday today:

I hope you have a super Monday Squirrels! Remember, if you're coming to the afternoon Zoom session, we will be doing the maths activity above. See you soon!
